Our journey starts at Finca Paraiso with a picnic lunch, swimming, and exploration of the cave. Finca Paraiso is an idyllic and unusual tropical place, where thermal hot waterfalls cascade into a cool deep natural swimming pool. After this, we continue on to the Rio Dulce and check-in at our waterfront cabañas.
The 2nd day begins with a 45 minute boat ride, taking us to our kayaks. Once our gear is ready, we set off through the canyons of the lower section of the river to Livingston, admiring all the sights along the way. We will arrive at our hotel´s dock La Casa Rosada after paddling for about 3-4 hours. We then have the rest of the day to walk around the very relaxed and funky town of Livingston, Guatemala´s only Caribbean town boasting a vibrant Garifuna culture.
We will also make a visit to the Archaeological Mayan ruins of Quirigua, where we will explore the area with the largest carved stelas in the known Mayan world, a site which flourished in the late Classic period (around 800 AD).
